Today, over 24,000 students from 120 countries study at the university. James Joyce, the author of Ulysses, completed his BA at the university in 1902. Other well-known graduates include the author Flann O'Brien, the actors Gabriel Byrne and Brendan Gleeson, film directors Neil Jordan and Jim Sheridan, and former Irish rugby captain Brian O'Driscoll. Numerous Irish Presidents and Taoisigh (Prime Ministers) also studied at UCD including: John Bruton (Prime Minister), John A Costello (Prime Minister), Dr Garret Fitzgerald (Prime Minister), and Cearbhall Ó Dálaigh (President).
