How can I change the thumbnail on my YouTube Shorts after uploading?

I've been trying to figure out how to change the thumbnail on my YouTube Shorts, but it seems like a challenge. I looked in the YouTube Studio on my desktop, and it directed me to the mobile app. However, I can't find an option to change the thumbnail in the app either. Has anyone else faced this issue, and how can I resolve it?

Unfortunately, YouTube has been pretty consistent about not allowing thumbnail changes after a video is published. I’ve checked multiple times, and the only way to get a new thumbnail is to delete the current Short and upload it again with the correct thumbnail.

When I uploaded my Shorts, I noticed that there was a little pencil icon that lets you edit the thumbnail. It’s easy to miss, and it only appears during the upload process. So, if you don’t catch it at that moment, you won’t have the chance to change it later.

I’ve also heard that while YouTube is rolling out new features and experimenting with AI, they haven't prioritized making thumbnail edits easier for creators. It’s a bit disheartening because it feels like such a basic need for content creators.

I've been in the same boat, and it turns out that once you publish a YouTube Short, you can't change the thumbnail afterward. It’s pretty frustrating since you'd think that would be a simple feature to implement.
