How long does it typically take to reach YouTube monetization milestones?

I'm curious about everyone's journey to YouTube monetization. I've been struggling to get my channel off the ground, currently sitting at 156 subscribers and around 300 watch hours. It feels like it will take forever to reach the 1000 subscribers and 4000 watch hours required for monetization. How long did it take you to hit these milestones, and what strategies did you find effective?

I’ve been at it for 2 years and currently have around 1.8K subs and 2,400 watch hours. I've been posting regularly for the past few weeks in hopes of increasing my watch time further. It really is a grind, but staying consistent is key. The more you post, the more chances you have to attract new viewers.

In my case, I've been posting tutorial-style content, and I have about 2,200 subscribers but only around 2,500 watch hours. It's interesting because my niche seems to attract subscribers faster than watch time. I recommend studying your niche to see what works for others and adapting your strategy accordingly.

I started my channel about 12 weeks ago and hit monetization with 1,100 subs and 5,000 watch hours. It was a mix of luck and consistency in posting. I tried to offer guidance to others early on but faced some negativity, so I stopped. If anyone has questions, I’m happy to share my experience!

I’ve been streaming three nights a week and have accumulated about 2,500 watch hours, but I only have 340 subscribers. It’s fascinating how different strategies can lead to varied results; for me, the watch time is high because of the consistent streaming, but I still need more subscribers to meet the requirements.

Honestly, even with just 300 watch hours at 156 subs, I think you’re doing great! It just takes one viral video or short to change everything. I’ve experienced this firsthand – a single viral moment can completely shift your channel's trajectory.
