Should I Create a New YouTube Channel or Use My Existing One?

I'm contemplating whether to start a new YouTube channel or to continue with my existing channel, which has been inactive for about six years. The current channel has a different niche, and I’m still figuring out what kind of content I want to create. What are the pros and cons of each option?

I found myself in a similar situation and ultimately decided to create a new channel. My original channel had around 700 subscribers but was focused on a completely different niche and had been inactive for quite some time. I was concerned that the analytics from my old channel would skew the performance of my new content, making it harder for YouTube to recommend my videos to the right audience. Starting fresh allowed me to build a new brand without the baggage of my previous content.

In my case, I opted to create a new channel as well, but I think it ultimately depends on your goals. If your current channel is vastly different from the content you want to create, a new channel might be the better route. However, if your existing channel has a small but engaged audience, you could leverage that base while transitioning into a new niche. Just keep in mind that clarity is key for YouTube's algorithm—it needs to know what your channel is about.

Starting a new channel can indeed feel like a fresh start, and it allows you to explore new content without the constraints of an old brand. If you do go this route, focus on SEO from the beginning by optimizing your channel description, video tags, and thumbnails. YouTube will take time to recognize your new niche, and consistent content will help it understand who to recommend your videos to.
