Is it a good idea to delete and repost underperforming videos?

I've noticed that some YouTubers have different opinions on whether it's wise to delete a video that didn't perform well and then repost it. Given that a video might not resonate with subscribers or could have been negatively impacted by timing or thumbnails, is it better to just scrap the video entirely and start afresh, or should I try to tweak the existing video instead?

I've found that you can indeed change many aspects of your video without needing to delete it. While it may not get the same level of promotion as newer content, there's always a chance that tweaking the thumbnail or title might catch someone's eye and help it gain traction over time.

While larger creators sometimes delete and repost videos, especially if they need to edit out something, I've realized that my existing subscribers won’t rewatch a video they've already seen. This can signal to the algorithm that the video isn't worth promoting. So, I prefer to focus on improving engagement with my current content.

From my experience, deleting and reposting a video can be risky. Some creators have been flagged as spam for doing this too often, which can ultimately hurt your channel. Instead, I recommend making adjustments to your existing video, such as changing the thumbnail or tweaking the title and tags.
